The Los Angeles 2028 Olympics will be the third Games hosted by LA — and it's shaping up to be the most spectacular yet. New sports, legendary venues and Hollywood-scale ceremonies await. Here's everything we know.
New Sports: Cricket Returns!
The headline: cricket returns to the Olympics after 128 years (last played in 1900), in the T20 format — massive news for Pakistan, India and the sport's billion-plus fans. Flag football makes its Olympic debut, alongside squash (finally!), lacrosse and baseball/softball. These additions are designed to capture younger, American and South Asian audiences.
Iconic Venues
LA is using its legendary stadiums: the LA Memorial Coliseum (athletics — as in 1932 and 1984), SoFi Stadium (swimming and ceremonies — the largest venue ever for Olympic swimming), and the Intuit Dome for basketball. Surfing heads to Trestles, and the marathon will run through the city's iconic streets. No expensive white-elephant stadiums — LA's existing infrastructure is the model for sustainable Games.
Dates and Scale
The Games run July 14-30, 2028, with the Paralympics following in August. Expect over 10,000 athletes, the biggest Olympic swimming setup ever, and opening ceremonies spread across venues. Ticket demand will be enormous — register interest early through official channels.
